What Is a Real Natural Latex Mattress?
Many
people talk about the benefits of a natural latex mattress but few really know
what one is , and the difference between what is genuinely natural and what is just
really synthetic latex labelled as
natural.
Well here's
a quick heads up on what a 'Latex Mattress' is.
Latex is
the solid form of rubber milk that comes from the Hevea Brasiliensis (rubber)
tree which are mainly grown in South East Asia, our Latex comes from Sri lanka
and has been certified as Organic. When untampered with, it remains 100% pure
and is just basically a biological plant based material. It is both biodegradable
and recyclable, as well as being mould, mildew and dust mite resistant. Its
flammability is low and it has no off gassing associated with it. Unlike synthetic
latex however, it is more costly to produce than petroleum based foams, and
thus is only used in its pure form by specialist organic furniture companies. Real
Natural Latex mattresses can be made via the dunlop method or Talalay, but the
Talalay method allows chemical additives to be added more easily. Some pure
natural latex has been produced via the Talalay method of production, but its
more expensive. In order to keep a real natural latex mattress pure, fire retardant
chemicals are not added to it, and only wool or sometimes natural graphite would
be used to non-toxically and non-chemically meet fire safety regs. We only use pure
100% clean dunlop latex with wool at buyOrganics.
What Is Synthetic Latex?
Most high street furniture manufacturers, like
to play around with the latex due to its cost, and add various chemicals to
cheapen it, so that less of the more
expensive rubber is used and more fillers, these may include polyurethane in
the form of polyurethane foam (petrochemical
based) which is what most furniture is made from. Poly foam contains 2 main
ingredients polyols (such as Propylene oxide) and diisocyanates ( such as Toluene diisocyanate ). Both of these have been proven to
cause mammary tumours. Toluene is also a neurotoxin which off gases over time as
the mattress breaks down releasing chemicals into the air and into normal house
dust. Poly foam is also highly flammable
and requires that fire retardant chemicals be added to the foam also to make it
more fire safe. Another additive commonly used is styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR). The
chemical styrene is toxic to the lungs, liver, and brain. Synthetic additives
have to be further added to stabilize it. Most synthetic latex mattresses
contain a combination, so either 70% natural latex and 30% SBR or natural latex
and polyfoam. But manufacturers can call it natural. You have to digg below the
surface if you want to know if its real!
Is A Real Natural Latex Mattress Worth the Money?
If your
health is important to you then A 100% pure natural latex mattress is
definitely worth the investment, as it will not off gas or breakdown, creating
toxic house dust. It will be comfy and supportive and the best sleeping
experience ever, whilst also not exposing you to daily and nightly dangers and
long term illness.

Cheap Mattresses That Cause Cancer
Just came across this old footage of how Chinese and Taiwanese mattresses contain too much formaldehyde, which could lead to Cancer with prolonged use. Considering most people use their mattress for an average of 10 years then, most of the mattresses that have been sold over the last decade are still in use around the world. If you are still sleeping on the mattress you bought 7 years ago, and it was a cheapo one, then maybe you've not being doing your health much good as it's probably been off gassing chemicals all that time. So maybe it's time to chuck it out or invest in a safe organic mattress....

Easier Breastfeeding with Organic Pregnancy Pillows
Organic mothers will know that breast feeding is one of the most lovely ways to bond with baby, yet it is not always as simple as you think. It's important that baby's latched on right, so that you don't get sore, and also that baby is at the right angle so that they can feed properly. Your back also needs support so that it is a comfortable experience for both of you.
The worst nightmare for me when my first baby was born, was expressing milk, I was advised to start expressing too soon and found that it messed up my flow of milk so that when I let down it sprayed out in massive fountains across the room!! Suffice to say the flow was too fast for my little one and she often ended up crying. So take some advise from me, don't start expressing too soon. Let things happen naturally and express later!
So besides from a really supportive bra, and nipple cream after baby was born, I really benefitted from an Organic pregnancy body pillow both before and after pregnancy. It's also known as a spelt snake pillow or a sausage pillow. Its just a long sausage shaped pillow made of 100% organic cotton and filled with 100% organic spelt grains. The cotton is healthy because its organic, un-dyed and unbleached, and the spelt is soothing, and very remedial for health. It is so versatile, and can be wrapped round your back or through your legs when you sleep at night and are trying to support a heavy bump and afterwards is fantastic for supporting baby as you breastfeed. The pillow just wraps under you and you can prop baby on top.
Now the baby days have gone we just use it as a bolster in bed, or for tired aching legs but its been with us for years and is truly an investment! I'm sure its going to be passed onto my kids when were older.. its just one of those things!
As one of my buyOrganics customers said yesterday about hers...."The snake pillow is great, during pregnancy and after!"

buyOrganics price adjustments
Dear Customers, we are in the process of adjusting our prices. Although VAT is now being charged on all items, we are in the process of adjusting prices so that the increase is not so huge! Where possible we are absorbing as many costs as possible. The Classico mattress range prices have been adjusted and will not change now, however the prices of pillows and duvets are likely to adjust slightly over the next few days, coming into balance most likely lower than is currently shown but higher than they were sold at previously. When all prices are fully updated we will let you know again!
Sorry for any inconvenience caused over the next few days.
